deb wrote : Catch the fishes at Bay of Bengal: “i am from west Bengal kolkata, i came to Bangalore 3 months back. I absolutely love my Bengali food. First thing i google was about Bengali food in Bangalore. And i found some good bengali restaurant which was listed at hungryzone.com. To name them, they are kolkata, bangaliana, 6 ballygunge palace, bay of Bengal etc in different places. Last week only i went to Bay of Bengal with some of my Punjabi Friends. I am really proud to have such a yummy Bengali food in Bangalore. It was Friday evening at around 7:30pm we went in bay of Bengal. Even though they were busy, they didn't take long time to take us to our table. We got our menu, as everyone knows Bengali food without fish (or seafood) would be impossible. I ordered the fish curry which was really yummy with the rice. And i also loved their paneer kalia. Very nice. And the prawn fry was very mouth watering. And most important thing was that the sweet were really tasty which was served at bay of bengal, i was feeling like i was eating in kolkata. Last Friday was really a great experience with my friends (they also loved the food in bay of Bengal). I would obviously visit Bay of Bengal again! ”

We went there with the false impression that it was run by KC Das, as soon as you walk in you know it's not! Dingy, dirty and falling apart!Even as we waited patiently for our food I was afraid a make do thermocol roof would fall on my mums head! The food is ridiculously priced for the quantity and QUALITY is not a word they have heard of. I had some Doi bindi dish which came with some watery sour curd like liquid, and bindis I could not even break with a fork! Naan we had to play tug of war with!OH! bad experience! ”
sb wrote : Complete rip off!: “When one goes out to have a nice meal all he/she would want is a meal which tastes good and is sufficient to fill you up. But this place seems to be complete rip off. One should check out the quantity of food per plate, especially the lamb preparations. At least to say, even if you provide feed back on how they could improve (being a Bengalee myself, I wanted this place to be at par with others), but the manager has not inclination to improve. Infact it turned out to be a big disappointment yet came at a huge cost. If you ever feel like having Bengali food, please avoid this place and try out the other Bengali restaurants. Regarding taste, it was nothing but average place. This place should be avoided if you want to have a good evening. ”

Specially given the fact that off late restaurants are spending more time n energy to become museums and forgtting that they are restaurants who serve food, Bay of Bengal is a manna in the desert.
Great work !!! ”
angshuman wrote : An average place: “This is an average place to have bengali food in the town. Nothing overwhelmingly good, nothing too bad either.
Their veg dishes are insipid. Non veg dishes fare better, though not very authentic. The chicken and mutton gravies have a funny taste. No bad, but not bengali too!
Tried some hilsa item once - it was a disaster. It tasted horrible, and smelled to!
The only thing I like about them is their snacks like radhaballavi, fish finger, fry and orly! I generally visit it for snacks and seldom buy dinner. If at all I do, I select from a few tried-and-tasted items! ”

The "daab chingri" never came andamp; no one bothered to inform us also that it was not available that day.The pabda preparation was also not what we had ordered and had to be changed.
Mutton kasa and kurma were good.Radhaballabi was also vey good.Polau andamp; pabda fish were OK. The bill came to around 900 for 4 people, but they made several mistakes in the bill andamp; we had to rectify them twice.I have heard that mistakes in billing is very common there.
Ambience is OK though the place is a little bit cramped. For a Saturday evening crowd was a little less.Around 75% of the tables were full all the time, and as expected most of them were Bengalis.Difficult to attract people from other than Eastern/NE India. ”

1) its no where close to serving Bengali cuisine !
2) horrible taste : whatever they serve
3) they dont know what they serve ... ha ha ha
Rice uncooked , fish fry imitating the contiental fried fish , ceiling leaking , no water in the wash rooms .....goddddddd... and i paid a fortune for all the crap ! ”

I had been to Bay of Bangal,MG Road yesterday. Food was pathetic. I had ordered Fish Fingers,Bengali Pulao and Ilish Paturi.Fish Fingers were ok. But Pulao was totally uncooked rice. I felt i am havinf raw rice soaked in water. Ilish Paturi was more terrible. Fish pieces were from around the head and with too much bones.I totally wasted my money by paying 85 rupees for polao and 150 for Ilish paturi.

s d wrote : nah!: “not a place that I would dare to visit again. The first time I tried, they did not have water, so we went and ate and Coconut Grove. Second time, we went in, the experience started with dirt stained serviettes. The servers are polite but completely untrained.
The food is completely whatever. Usually, a daal tells you (as a benchmark) how good the place is. Their 'chholar daal' was quite horrible and did not taste even a bit like the bengali version. The fish dishes were quite indifferent. Also for the price that they charge, not worth the effort. The place is somewhat cramped, but did not have too many guests. If they remain on with the quality of food, and the number of guests - expect to see something else in its place in Church Street within the year.
