My sister had taken the whole family to Banjara in Jaynagar to celebrate her promotion. She was flying high and wanted to take us all to a very stylish place to remember the occasion. We live in a joint family so she chose this place so that the food will suit everyone's tastes. We went there on a weekday afternoon for lunch. There was an elaborate spread. The Tomato shorba was really good. I loved the salad options that were there. They had chosen well and I loved the chat like salad and the curd based one too. The younger ones in the family freaked out on the pasta and the Chinese options. The starters were excellent and they were always crisp. For the main course there were an excellent paneer dish and a kofta dish. The Biryani was good too and the dessert section was a treat for our family's sweet tooth. The whole family had a wonderful time and enjoyed the dishes. A meal to remember.
We were out shopping for my cousin's trousseau in Jayanagar when she suggested that we go to Banjara for lunch. Although the weekend lunch buffet is available, for our appetite - an a la carte would be sufficient we thought. We ordered aloo pepper as a starter and veg. jalfrezi, roomali roti and stuffed kulcha for the main course. The starter was really good and the order came in soon too. The main course also came up without much of a wait and the sabzi was really well made. The kind that u start eating and never stop until it's over. Any minuses - yes, the quantity of the food - it is not equivalent to the prices. We thought we'll end the meal with a tame gulab jamoon but even that was really good. The service is something all restaurants should emulate. They know how to make the vistors come back.
Road in Bangalore is a charming area, well connected in the heart of the city and there have been quite a few good concept restaurants coming up in the vicinity. Banjara is one of the pricier restaurants here but I seem to notice that it's got its share of loyal clientele. I have been here on two occasions. Once for a buffet lunch and once for dinner (a la carte). What struck me is that the service is really good and the staff knows how to take care of their guests. I like their buffet spread a lot and think they do a fantastic job of the non-veg. dishes like Mutton Handi and Chicken Makhanwala. The veg gravies and the starters are also good - the experience alone makes it a worth visiting place.
My office is close to Cunningham road and most of the small office celebrations are held in the restaurants here. Banjara is one of our favorites here. The quality of food and service have been consistently good here for as long as I remember. An advance reservation is all that is required to ensure that you have an excellent time and service there for a large crowd. I like the spread on their lunch buffet. They try out new variations and right from the soup to the dessert, the dishes are really good. The Indian dishes like Chicken Kolhapuri and Paneer Hari Mirch and the Biryani are my favorites here. There are my collegues who are fans of their big dessert menu too. I think they have got their ingredients right.
